Since I started to book for Fall sessions the first thing that most people ask me is "What should we Wear?" Today, I'll focus on boys! As a mother of 3 boys ages 12, 8 and 3 I know how easy yet hard it can be. It's no secret that boys have less options out there than girls but it does not mean that you HAVE to wear jeans, a white button down shirt and THAT'S IT! No.. you can spice it up! My oldest son loves to wear jeans, hoodies and his "Jordans" all day, everyday if he could but it does not mean he will wear that for our portraits! Lol!! Still, I do want him to be comfortable. Bulky sneakers are ok on a daily basis but not for any professional portraits. (My opinion)
Before I get started on some of the things that I love and my suggestions, I would like to say that not all photographers may agree with what I have to say. I respect that, we are all different and my style may not be what others like, it's ok! That's the beauty of having opinions :)
Let's talk color coordinating. I am NOT a fan of matching. I prefer same color families with pops of color that coordinate with everyone else. I suggest getting 2 neutrals and 2 different pops of colors. Go with that and try to get everyone to color coordinate instead of finding the exact same patterned sweater, shirt or whatever you were thinking of wearing.
Layer! A collard shirt under a vest or sweater, a bow tie or even a regular silk tie, tweed jacket, jeans and a hat! AWESOME!
Use different textures! Cotton shirt, sweater and a blazer and some Wool Pants. :) Here's a sample:

One last thing.. Don't forget the ACCESSORIES!
Yes, boys can wear accessories, in fact.. I suggest that you use at least 1. You can't go wrong with a hat, a bow tie, regular tie and even suspenders to tie in your look. Here are plenty of samples including includes all kinds of shirts, mufflers, coats, jackets, sweaters, T-shirts, caps, pants and other accessories for your Little Boy.
It all also comes down to the direction you are going with your photos. Do you want them to be formal or casual? If you go with casual, it does not mean that you HAVE to wear jeans. Keep it casual but add textures.
Here's some more samples. Some of these came from The Gap, HnM Kids, Crazy 8, Children's Place and Ralph Lauren. Get inspired and look around! To get even more samples, you can always head on over to Pinterest! :) Here's for the casual looks!!
Now, here are some a little more dressier outfits that you may like! These images are from Trendseve.com and Dolce and Gabbana
